Strengthening Quality Education Through Industry Partnerships and Student Empowerment Initiatives
In a decisive stride towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), Redeemer’s University (RUN) has continued to redefine the standard of tertiary education in Nigeria, not merely through academic instruction, but through strategic partnerships that prepare students for the evolving demands of the global workforce.
Earlier this year, the university entered into a transformative collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Youth Affairs Department, an initiative designed to equip RUN students with practical employability skills, leadership capacity, and entrepreneurial insight.
The partnership underscores Redeemer’s University’s long-standing commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically excellent but socially responsible and economically productive. Through workshops, mentorship sessions, and interactive training programmes, students are exposed to the realities of today’s workplace — from human resource management to personal branding and business innovation.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, the collaboration is part of a larger vision to ensure that every Redeemer’s University student graduates with both “a degree and a direction.” He emphasized that while classroom learning remains critical, industry exposure and leadership training are essential in bridging the gap between education and employability.
“We are intentional about ensuring that our students are not only knowledgeable but relevant,” he said. “Partnerships like this one with CIPM and RCCG Youth Affairs help us raise a generation of graduates who are ready to lead, to build, and to contribute meaningfully to society.”
The initiative, which saw participation from hundreds of undergraduates across disciplines, provided sessions on workplace ethics, entrepreneurial strategy, and personal development. It also included mentoring circles where professionals shared real-life experiences on navigating career transitions, managing start-ups, and sustaining excellence in corporate environments.
Beyond immediate skill-building, the programme reflects RUN’s institutional alignment with SDG 4 targets, particularly those calling for an increase in youth and adults with relevant skills for employment, decent jobs, and entrepreneurship. It also complements the University’s broader educational philosophy of holistic learning — one that integrates intellectual development with moral, social, and spiritual grounding.
Redeemer’s University’s dedication to quality education extends further through its University Research Grant and Staff Development Committee, which supports innovative research in “Education and Educational Pedagogy (SDG 4).” These efforts are enhanced by ongoing investments in digital learning infrastructure, including smart classrooms, interactive boards, and technology-enabled teaching tools that make learning more inclusive and engaging.
As one of Nigeria’s leading private universities, Redeemer’s University continues to position itself as a model for how higher institutions can operationalize the SDGs beyond theory, translating global aspirations into tangible outcomes for students, staff, and society at large.
Through partnerships like this, Redeemer’s University demonstrates that the true measure of educational excellence lies not only in academic grades, but in the capacity to create opportunities, solve problems, and contribute to national and global development.
